Kelowna’s Best Photography Locations for Weddings, Engagements, and Family Photo Sessions

Kelowna is full of magical corners, hidden gems, and breathtaking backdrops. This vibrant city offers an endless mix of breathtaking scenery, towering mountains, sandy beaches, crystal-clear lakes, orchards bursting with colors, rolling vineyards, and so much more. Whether you're drawn to the calm of the water, the magic of the woods, or the warm glow of the valley at sunset, the Okanagan provides a backdrop that feels both timeless and ever-changing.

So, where are the perfect places to take photos in Kelowna? In this guide, I'm sharing some of my favourite outdoor photo locations in Kelowna.

Over the years, I've gathered a collection of my absolute favorite spots to take photos in Kelowna. Whether you're dreaming of a romantic couple session, a cozy family shoot, or playful photos with your kids, the Okanagan has the perfect setting to match your vibe.

Whether you prefer soft sunsets by the water, vibrant seasonal colors, or peaceful nature trails, I'll help you choose a location that fits your style and personality. Scroll through my favorite Kelowna photo session spots to get inspired and when you're ready, we'll plan a session in a place that feels just right for you. Let's create something beautiful together in one of the most scenic cities in Canada.

Knox Mountain offers everything, sweeping Okanagan views, golden light, and space for kids to run and play. It's one of the most beautiful spots to capture genuine connection and unforgettable family memories. Spectacular Okanagan scenery, ideal for those "wow" photo portraits with the lake and valley behind you. Dog friendly. Grassy hills for cozy, natural poses, lake views, forest paths for shaded, intimate compositions, rocky viewpoints for adventurous, cinematic portraits. Arrowleaf Balsamroot flowers in the spring. Possible to drive to first lookout from Spring to Fall.

Lake views, beach vibes, and forest magic, all in one spot! This location is a powerhouse for photo sessions because of its stunning mix of water, woodland, and rocky viewpoint for a grand view, most spectacular golden hour over Okanagan Lake. The park seamlessly combines lake, beach, forest, and rocky shoreline backdrops. Lake views, playful shots on the pebble beach, intimate moments and dramatic sunset photos against the rocky outcrops.

Munson Pond Park is an excellent, yet often overlooked, location for photo sessions, especially if you are looking for a natural, soft, and slightly moody aesthetic right in the city. The small, picturesque pond is surrounded by a mature cottonwood forest. This provides a soft, lush, and textural backdrop that photographs beautifully. The park is generally much quieter than the large, popular parks and beaches. This tranquil atmosphere allows you to relax and genuinely connect, resulting in more intimate, peaceful, and authentic candid photos. The park features a flat, easy-to-walk loop gravel trail, some boardwalk sections, wooden viewing platform, reflections on the pond. Unfortunately no dogs allowed due to endangered ecosystem.

Mission Creek Park is such a beautiful spot for photos, tall trees, winding trails, and soft golden light peeking through the forest. It's calm, easy to access, and perfect for capturing those natural, candid moments. The park is filled with towering cottonwoods, forest trails, wooden bridges, and the gentle creek winding through. Dog friendly. The park is especially popular in the fall when the leaves change, creating stunning golden and amber colours that photograph beautifully. The tall, thick trees create a beautiful natural canopy that filters the sunlight, providing soft, diffused light which is incredibly flattering for portraits.

Francis Ave Beach is one of Kelowna's hidden gems, a calm, uncrowded spot with a little bit of everything: soft sandy beach, wooden boardwalk, tall grasses, bushes and trees. It's the perfect place for relaxed, playful photos by the lake. The access point is near the Maude Roxby Wetlands Boardwalk. Compared to the larger, more popular beaches (like Gyro, Tugboat or City Park), this beach access is less crowded, which is a huge benefit for photography.

Spectacular Panoramic Backdrops: The park sits high above the Okanagan Valley, offering some of the best vantage points in the city. You get stunning, sweeping views of Okanagan Lake, the surrounding mountains, and the entire city of Kelowna below. This epic backdrop instantly elevates photos and provides a rich, dynamic background that changes beautifully with the seasons. Breathtaking panoramic views of Kelowna, Okanagan Lake, and surrounding hills, dry grass, sagebrush scattered pines and rocky slopes, walking trails, sitting on rocks with a view. In the spring (April-May), the area is famous for the blooming yellow Arrowleaf Balsamroot flowers, which make a stunning seasonal addition to the photos.
